The Regulation (EU) 2015/2421 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2015 amending Regulation (EC) No 861/2007 establishing a European Small Claims Procedure and Regulation (EC) No 1896/2006 creating a European order for payment procedure, entered into force on 3 January 2016.

This Regulation aims at improving the European Small Claims Procedure in order to provide consumers with a means of effective redress and thus contribute to the practical enforcement of their rights.

It increases the ceiling as regards the value of a claim to 5,000 € and takes account of the technological developments in the field of justice and of the new tools available to the courts, which can help to overcome geographical distance and its consequences in terms of high costs and length of proceedings.
